Comics & Comic-Con

Posted by Ross Jul. 21, 2007 @ 3:52 PM EDT

On Wednesday (July 25th) I'll be flying to San Diego to man the Newgrounds booth at the famous San Diego Comic-Con. I must be the biggest comic book-nerd in America who's never been there - part of the reason being that San Diego is on the opposite side of the country from me. I'm also a little put-off by the apparent shift in focus from "comics" to "multimedia entertainment" or however you want to describe it - movies, TV, video games, anything that might appeal to the comics-reading demographic. But judging by the program listing for this year, I should be able to find plenty to nurture my inner comics fanboy (provided I can sneak away from the NG booth long enough to catch some of it). Plus, I'm getting to attend Comic-Con for non-comics-related reasons - so I guess I need to get over myself. I'm excited for next week, and judging by the responses to Tom's post, it sounds like a lot of NG users are planning to stop by.

If you're going, I'm curious - are you a comics reader? If so, what do you read - mainstream Marvel/DC superhero stuff? Indie comics? Graphic novels? Manga? I've fallen somewhat out of touch with new comics (I mostly focus on the period 1961-1991) but a friend of mine is lobbying me hard to get back into some current titles. So far he's recommended Ultimate Spider-Man, Fables, Y: The Last Man, and Scott Pilgrim. Anyone have any other suggestions?

However, beautiful job on the redesign and thanks for making the old NG too.

Tom said I had to talk to you... so... Do you like stuff?

Jul. 22, 2007 | 1:03 AM Momo-the-Monkey says:

Naah, I'm not a big comic book fan. I wasn't really around the "comic book era" as some might call it. I was more towards the end of it. Even though you can still collect them, it's not just the same as it use to be, ya know?

Good luck at comic-con, and Tom told me to say hi, so

HI ROSS!!!!!

Great job on the redesign, by the way ^.^

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:25 PM Ross responds:

If by "comic book era", you mean the early/mid 1990s when every other issue had a super special die-cut embossed cover that was sure to be a hot collectors item this time next week, and so everyone bought a million of them (but no one read it) - then I'm glad that era is over. :)

I'm talking to yew! :D

Jul. 22, 2007 | 1:07 AM JadeTheAssassin says:

Graphic novel suggestions include the following Batman ones:
- The Killing Joke
- Arkham Asylum
- The Dark Knight (this one's done by Frank Miller, methinks)
- a whole ton of other ones my brother has
Another good one would be Strangers in Paradise.

I'm a manga whore. :P

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:28 PM Ross responds:

I've read "The Dark Knight Returns" (all-time classic) and "Arkham Asylum". Someone else was recommending "Killing Joke" just the other day - I remember the hubbub when it first came out, but I never read it. I'll have to check it out.

I was an early reader of "Strangers in Paradise" but got kind of bored with it and sold my issues of it recently on eBay.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 1:08 AM Famas says:

I wish I could go, sounds like an awful lot of fun. As far as the type of comics I read, I tend to just pick up anything I find that might be interesting at my local Atomic Comics. I'm not a very consistent reader.

Tom thinks you need some attention.

That's a good Ross...who's a good programmer? Yeah, you're a good programmer! :-D

Jul. 22, 2007 | 1:17 AM CAPTAIN-COW says:

Dont read comic books but attend comic con, kinda weird but still cant wait to see you guys there again.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 1:19 AM deadlock32 says:

heh, did Tom ever show you my fledgling comic site? I dont want to publicly link yet because it will die if too many people try to upload to the small server. but I am looking to create tools to innovate the world of web comics. PM me if you'd like to see the engine in its current state.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:30 PM Ross responds:

PM sent!

Jul. 22, 2007 | 1:26 AM cornbin says:

Hey...you're not Wade! Or Stamper! OR Jeff! I'm kidding. Being a high school teacher must've been hell. Did you ever plug Newgrounds? 'Well ladies and gentlemen this reflex is automatic, just like the automatic portal system on newgrounds I coded' XD

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:32 PM Ross responds:

Nah... I kept my former affiliation with NG on the down-low. My students probably would've respected me more (I thought someone would discover the link, but no one did), but you're expected to have a squeaky clean image at all times as a teacher. That's part of why I had to get out - I'm no politician. :)

Jul. 22, 2007 | 1:27 AM MetalDart says:

I'm a comic reader. I mostly read Bongo comics, but I also like reading the old SPiderman comics. I really enjoy those.

Also, I have the first issue of the Scooby Doo comics lol. X:

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:34 PM Ross responds:

The early Spider-Man stuff is, for my money, some of the best superhero stuff ever. If you have the means, I recommend picking up "The Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus", volume 1. Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #1-38 in a beautiful hardcover format.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 1:28 AM strumpy says:

Tom says you're not getting enough credit. He's right. Looks like you're not getting enough credit. Well here's some credit: GREAT FREAKING JOB! The redesign looks beautiful.
Anyways, I'm a jealous bastard right now. I wanna go to Comic-Con soooo badly. You guys better take a lotta pictures and shit! Have fun!

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:35 PM Ross responds:

There are a lot of us who broke our backs making the redesign work. If you like how it looks, don't thank me - I had nothing to do with that part of it! Thank JohnnyUtah, Stamper, Bob, Mindchamber, and Mike (for his awesome audio visualizer).

Jul. 22, 2007 | 1:44 AM StevensA says:

I'm not going to Comic-Con, but I do have an extensive collection of Marvel comics, like Silver Surfer and The Punisher. Hell, I even have some rare Iron Man comics (like a mint copy of issue #1...hells yeah).

But, I do tend to enjoy reading Japanese manga a bit more than my American collection of Marvel.

Have fun at Comic-Con and tell us how it is!

(lucky bastard...)

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:38 PM Ross responds:

That's funny, I used to have Iron Man #1 too. Yours is really mint, though? I find that hard to believe. Even brand new comics are rarely mint. It's very, very hard to find a perfect copy, especially of 1960s/70s stuff.

I sold my early Iron Man issues in favor of picking up Essential Iron Man vol. 1-2. I just know I wouldn't read the actual comics - I'd be too afraid of damaging them. I take excellent care of my comics, but I'm all about reading them - I'd never buy something I had no intention of reading. (I think I still have Iron Man #41-275 or so. Iron Man was always one of my favorite characters.)

Also, commenting here because Tom made me.

and ppl's, Ross deserves more credit then he's gettin, so Give him more!!!, Zod commands it!, kneel before Zod!

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:39 PM Ross responds:

People love "Marvel Zombies". I guess I should check it out. I find it oddly disturbing - I guess I'm a little too attached to these characters. :)

Jul. 22, 2007 | 2:19 AM Jonas says:

Berzerk and Battle Royale are some of the most enjoyable mangas I've read in a long long time.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:41 PM Ross responds:

I'm not really up on manga... is there something that I could read, to get my feet wet? All I've read so far is "Nausicaa" (which I loved). I know "Akira" is supposed to be awesome, but the comics version of it is long (like 30+ issues). And I know "Ghost in the Shell" is supposed to be good too, but I never got around to reading it.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 2:37 AM Dark-Knight says:

I would love to see more Comic book cartoons on newgrounds, Dc & Marvel... i love those X-men cartoons that "whats his name" does.. he did a great JLA one aswell where green arrow hits everyone over the head.. this one to be precise http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view /272710

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:43 PM Ross responds:

True, true. That is a good point. Hopefully my favorite hobby finds ways to stay relevant and interesting. I'd hate to be 80 years old and the only one left who cares about comics.

The ultimate comic, of all time, is Transmetropolitan.

Honest to God. Nothing beats it. The main character is like Hunter S. Thompson, but more crazy. Oh, And there's drugs, porn, and violence.

Have fun at the Comic Con. I'd go, but I live in Australia. :(

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:45 PM Ross responds:

I've heard it's really good - I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:28 AM rolentogrenades says:

Ross,

I've been thinking a lot lately about the shift in the comic industry, starting with the Image revolution in the 90s and what we have today. I usually sound like a bitter broken pessimist, sure, but I'd agree that the true focus of the funnybook has been forever lost in a sea of corporate merchandising and anime tie-ins. When I watch those Comic Con videos on Youtube of knuckleheads drinking booze in an "after party" or see scantily clad types dressed up like comic characters they're not even familiar with, I don't know, a part of me dies or something. I know it's all in good fun, but I'd go to one of those things to meet actual comic creators and get books signed, not to party like I'm at a bar. Two cultures mixed that just don't seem to mix.

For comics, I've never been a hardcore nerd buying 30 titles a month like the guys at the local shops here. But I'm into some obscure stuff, like the Eclipse and Valiant titles. I'm also a hugely influenced in my art by Val Semeiks who drew Lobo in the 1994-1996 run. Since you read books further back than that, you may not be familiar. Yeah, the Vertigo titles are usually all great. I've got a tattoo of Jesse Custer, man, hahah.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:49 PM Ross responds:

I feel your pain with respect to seeing the comics culture invaded by these corporate outsiders. It's annoying, but I think (hope) the industry will keep evolving, and still find ways to satisfy us old-school comics types.

I'm not familiar with Semeiks, but I do have plenty of stuff from Eclipse ("Tales of the Beanworld" and "Miracleman" are undeniably classic), as well as Valiant, of which I'm a huge fan. I have a complete run of pre-Unity Valiant and am still impressed at what they were able to pull off. I think the quality plummeted right after Unity, after Jim Shooter was forced out - so sad, to think of what might have been.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:37 AM DareDevilGuy says:

If only I lived in America. I would be able to drive and drive my ass over at Comic-con.

It was not meant to be :(

Jul. 22, 2007 | 8:45 AM ADHD1134 says:

Thanks soooo much for the redesign. As for the comics, I don't read that many of the new ones except for Marvel Zombies.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 9:04 AM AbsintheClock says:

I'm a fan of the batman series Arkham, and much more recently than that the new "Detective Comics" stuff is really really phenomenal. I dig a lot of the much darker stuff I guess. Then again that isn't exactly anything new. I hear the Newgrounds booth is going to have clock crew post cards. If this rumor is true is there any way to make it available to folks who won't be able to attend for one reason or another? (IE: me)

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:50 PM Ross responds:

You'll have to talk to Tom on that one. I've been too busing wading through PHP/JavaScript code to get involved with the merchandise stuff.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 9:16 AM mystro says:

You should try picking up an Annihilation trade, fukken awesome cosmic event and you don't need to read anything beforehand (albeit a few wiki entrys) to get a gist of what is going on unlike Civil War. Plus, Galactus is turned into a giant planet eating weapon which is awesome

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:51 PM Ross responds:

I always did like the cosmic Marvel stuff (Galactus, Silver Surfer, Thanos, Skrulls, Captain Marvel, Annihilus) so maybe I will. Thanks!

Jul. 22, 2007 | 9:19 AM Dorkky says:

I used to read Pokemon comics when I was about 9 or 10 years old, I wish That I could go to Comic-Con, but I live too far away... By the way, great job on the awesome redesign!

Jul. 22, 2007 | 9:36 AM EvilJesus says:

I would hug you but you kinda got herpes :3
Anyway, awesome job on the redesign!

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:52 PM Ross responds:

Uhhh... no I don't. You must be thinking of Stamper.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 9:41 AM Kisuke says:

Neat that you dig comics and the like. I used to read a good amount of marvel comics. Spawn I was a big fan of but I like manga myself mainly these days.

Good Titles:

- Monster
- Berserk
- Basilisk
- Death Note
- Trigun

In no order. I suggest checking out the first two, especially Berserk. Jonas misspelled Berserk with a 'z' but we are saying the same title. Strongly suggest it. Published by Dark Horse and they do a damn fine job.

Also, thanks for deciding to come back to Newgrounds and helping out with this super savvy redesign. It's the best that I've ever seen. I really love these user pages Ross. I can't say how much I love this site now since this redesign. It's just beyond anything I've ever seen.

I've never really been a huge comic fan. I've read a bit of everything, but never came even close to finishing any series. Maybe going to Comic-Con would change that...

Too bad I didn't even know about it until a few days ago. I'll have to wait until next year...

Jul. 22, 2007 | 11:57 AM Maus says:

HAY ROSS

i noticed your collection at the office and noticed that I have at least one you might be interested in having. Micronauts, iss. #13. It's in 'eh' condition (been thumbed through a bit) but I think that's the only issue I have (i could be entirely wrong.)

Let me know, and I'll mail it to the P.O. Box! If you want that one, I'll rummage through the rest of my collection and see if I have other issues. :)

Jul. 22, 2007 | 5:39 PM Ross responds:

Aww, thanks Maus, but I already have complete runs of Micronauts vol. 1 and 2. Those comics I have laying around the office are just extras. I'm not even that big a fan of Micronauts... I just really like that one cover.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 12:40 PM LilDwarf says:

I'm exactly like you. I prefer"old" comics than the more recent ones. After a trip to the local comic book store, I bought a few that were great! Maybe you like them. The most entertaining I read was "Street Fighter II". Also, the new issues of "Spawn" have been great. I don't know if this one is still on but it's pretty funny, it's called "Madman Comics".

Look for those and you might have a swell reading time :) I just got the urge to go to the comic store right now :3

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:15 PM Ross responds:

I'm a fan of "Madman" - especially the early stuff. I like Mike Allred's style a lot. Not sure how much of a fan you are, but he has some giant 800+ page hardcover that just came out, which reprints every Madman story he's ever done (in anticipation of his forthcoming Image comic).

Doujin/manga... though i used to read most of the 'Dark Horse' comics.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 2:25 PM Lagerkapo says:

I say read "The Watchmen". It's a one-volume graphic novel, but one of the most brilliant I've read. If you don't already know it's about superheros after vigilantism is illegalized, but at the same time it's totally fucking awesome and macabre.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:55 PM Ross responds:

Come on... what kind of comics nerd would I be if I hadn't read "Watchmen"? :) I even had the original 12 issues of it, though I sold them and bought the TPB recently.

It's a guy's dream to meet a girl who likes comics as much as they do. Unfortunately for you people, I'm gay. I also like Sonic.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:56 PM Ross responds:

I don't think that's every guy's dream... at least, not mine! My wife has never read a single comic book, and that's fine by me.

Talkin' 'cause Tom said to.

Almost seems more insulting than positive.

I dunno much about comics, but my brother's been reading The Invisibles and Transmetropolitan and says they kick ass, I suppose they do.

Oh, Sandman kicks ass. Neil Gaiman kicks ass in general.

Jul. 23, 2007 | 9:50 AM Ross responds:

Gaiman is great. If you haven't read it, I recommend his book "American Gods". It's not comics, but it's excellent.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 4:01 PM Ducklegion says:

Im not really into comics since you have to get issue 1,2,3,4,6 then your like where is 5?I cant find it anywhere...but yeah,,,and Tom said to talk to you..

Jul. 22, 2007 | 4:56 PM somestupidloser says:

I steer clear of the store bought comics. Super Hero comics aren't my style, they always feels corny. Now, I do read comics, but just ones on the web. If you're looking for one, you could find most of the good ones on the VG cats links page. If I were to recommend a comic, I would choose "Girly"by Josh Lesnick.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 5:29 PM The-Priest says:

I don't have any suggestions but Tom said that we should talk to you on your userpage so I thought it'd be nice to comment anyways!

and i have a few compilations/graphic novels that i picked up in the last 2 yrs.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 7:00 PM Ross responds:

Savage Dragon was lame. Good move on that one.

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:07 PM Maverickly says:

Jul. 22, 2007 | 6:40 PM Ivantuk says:

Jul. 22, 2007 | 7:01 PM Ross responds:

I don't know anything about that series. Who publishes it?

Jul. 22, 2007 | 7:32 PM Lalo says:

well i like the shift to comics-only to more multimedia related. it invites more people to it, i like it.

well i dont like comics that much, i was interested in xmen until i found out about the multiple timelines and shit, its just confusing... i wanna see anything simsons related and id love to see one of those original and creative comics or graphic novels, the ones that are just starting and dont invole multiple earths...

lol, cya there :)

My bad. I forgot to make myself clear. I checked my collection and it turns out...it's the "Heroes Return: The Invincible Iron Man" #1 from 1998. It's still mint, though. Never opened the package, though I am tempted to...

Sorry for the confusion. By the way, what's your favorite comic to read altogether?

Jul. 22, 2007 | 9:06 PM Ross responds:

That's an impossible question to answer. If you put a gun to my head and made me choose, I'd probably pick "Miracleman":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracleman

It's very hard to track it down (it ran for 24 issues, published by Eclipse), because the rights to it are stuck in copyright hell. But if you can, it's very worth it.

Youve read the Sandman comics right? I truly think that Neil Gaiman is one of the greatest comic book writers of all time.

Jul. 23, 2007 | 7:15 AM Ross responds:

Most definitely. "Sandman" is great.

Have you read Gaiman's "Books of Magic" mini-series? It's all-around awesome - great writing, amazing art.

I'm really in love with DC's All New Atom, their new version of The Spirit, Jack of Fables, All Star Superman is also very well done. Marvel's newest Ghost Rider series is Spectacular, and I also recommend picking up the Dark Tower series.

Rock on Moon Knight and Deadpool

Jul. 23, 2007 | 9:46 AM Ross responds:

I was never a big fan of Deadpool's snarky personality. Moon Knight is cool, though - sort of the Marvel equivalent of Batman.

I dont know how many people share my sentiment and I dont have much experience with comics but the best series I ever read was the original series of spawn. I dont have it anymore but if you can get ahold of it you really should. The artwork is fantastic and its got a very dark and murky view of what it looks at which includes space travelling angels, mobsters and psychotic murderers.
All in all a good read :D

Jul. 23, 2007 | 9:48 AM Ross responds:

I was into "Spawn" when it first came out and it was all McFarlane, and I remember liking it. But then he stopped drawing it, and they brought in these McFarlane-wannabe artists to draw it, and I thought the quality dropped off.

hey i dont have any suggestions on some comicbooks to read but if ure a big warcraft fan u should buy the sunwell trilogy but if u dont like it can u not blame me? and if u wondering it should be in any bookstore under the comic book section

Jul. 23, 2007 | 10:27 AM pixelz says:

I'm into the Spider-Man comics written and illustrated by Todd McFarlene, my personal favourite being torment. The whole series after that was great, I loved Todd's vision of the Hob Goblin and how everything became sort of darker. I would love to go to a comic convention because I have two version of the very first torment; one is in colour and the other is all silver and black. I'm itching to know whats behind this. And Ultimate Spider-Man is pretty good too, I got issues with Green Goblin in it, and when he's all super demonic and such. I like that Green Goblin. But still any comic with Lizard is just fantastic!

HEY ROSS!

What's up? Glad to hear that the Comic-Con went well....

As for me, generally I'm more of a manga-type person, although some Marvel comics I've been reading lately have been The New Avengers and the Captain America series.

What Tom says goes so here i am.I am a graphic novel reader mainly, though i deviate occasionally. The most recent that i have read are Ghost "Nocturnes", Birds of Prey "Perfect Pitch", and My Monkeys Name is Jennifer. My all time favorites have to be The Filth, The Boys, The Sandman series, and anything randomly unnormal. Fables is awesome, but i havent kept up with it. I love Neil Gaiman so anythign he does is gold, and i believe thats all im gonna say, cuz my geek is showing. Happy reading!

Jul. 23, 2007 | 1:26 PM TeethCollector says:

Y'know, because I am a girl, I MUST like anything published by Vertigo. So, I might give "Fables" a look-see. It really sounds interesting, since I have to fine something else to read. All the manga I've tired reading lately are poo-poo. As for a recommendation, try "Maus". It's a classic, and if you like "Muas", you might like "Apocalypse Meow." Despite the overly cutesy title, it's actually pretty good.

Jul. 23, 2007 | 5:32 PM Ross responds:

What kind of comics reader would I be if I hadn't read "Maus"?? I just reread it recently, for like the 12th time. It has to be in my Top 10 (maybe Top 5).

Jul. 23, 2007 | 3:12 PM Schlupi says:

I have read some of the new ultimate spiderman comics, I didnt really like them that much. If you want to read good Manga, you could check out "Samurai Champloo" and "Read or Die".

Jul. 23, 2007 | 4:22 PM theSneakySnake says:

If you're looking for a more recent manga, try Airgear. The english releases started a few months back, and issue 5 is due out in a few days.

Its an excellent mix of action, cool clothing, perverted jokes, fighting, motorized "rollerblading", and of course--panties.

Easy enough to find at Barnes and Noble or Borders.

I'm not much into comics, but my brother has a whole bunch of Manga comics (for some reason he's into that kinda stuff). As for Comic-Con, I'll probably never go to one. It's just not my thing. Although I think I have a couple of old comics lying around my house somewhere.

Yo,
Comics?! Bah, i sold all of mine yrs ago to buy my first car . . .
If you wanna read some awesome comics, read the sonic comic books! w00t! Chili Dogs and other bad story lines. It sure beats the heck out of those <sarcasm>BORING War Machine, Iron Man, X-Men, Superman (pre-80s) and the "MeGa" annoying Dick Tracy comics... . </sarcasm> ... Try 'em out if you want but personally I'd stick to sitting around waiting for Stick Rpg 2 or awaiting the next inevitable Star Wars movie. =P

Check our Carla Speed McNeil's "Finder" series. Could be tough to find, but quite worth it. Sort of a Mad Max meets Misson Hill kind of vibe. Lots of hidden backstory and well-formed characters. Reccomended for anyone who reads comic books as literature and not as "Kool! Hiz hed blowed up!"

You probably got reccomended this one already but I used to read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Its good for all sorts of readers. But if you actually take the time to read whats being said theres messages behind the main story. Its not bad, but I dont have a comic store around me or else I probably would. The only comic I have is the Comic-ised version of Batman Forever >_> <_<

Jul. 24, 2007 | 6:19 PM RiftMaster says:

Yeah I used to read a ton of comics. X-men mostly when I was a kid. Didn't read it for years cause Marvel's stuff started to really suck and get convulted. But a couple months ago I read Watchmen and now I'm a huge comics freak again. Mostly I'm reading less mainstream stuff these days. All of Alan Moore and Frank Miller's work, Battle Pope, The Maxx, John Constantine: Hellblazer, etc

Jul. 25, 2007 | 4:21 PM Maverickly says:

You might have a hard time finding them, but comics by Jhonen Vasquez, Creator of Invader Zim, has great comics out that are funny and sometimes gruesome. Johnny the homicidal maniac, for one, is very bloody, but it still makes a laugh here and there.

I geuss I'm lucky that I live in CA, San Jose exactly, and a bit of a nerd, but I was born in 94, so I kinda missed the whole comic thing.

Jul. 26, 2007 | 1:29 PM DigitalDragon says:

Ive been reading the Marvel Civil War series lately and I must say it's some of the best work Ive seen in a long time. Out of everything out there right now, Id say this is a must read.

Jul. 26, 2007 | 3:17 PM Kaleidoscope says:

I am actually pretty similar to you in the sense that I usually focus on earlier comics. I am a big fan of Wolverine having a decent collection of X-Men comics and essentially every single Wolverine comic. I am also a big Alan Moore fan with V for Vendetta, Watchmen, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, etc. I haven't read most of my comics for a while but sometimes i'll get in touch with my inner nerd and read a few.

Jul. 26, 2007 | 5:33 PM Atronflame says:

Some great Graphic Novel/Comic series' in my collection include The Walking Dead (which is up to 6 collections so far), DMZ (DMZ: On The Ground is the collection, I haven't really been able to find much else but it IS a series, and a damn good one), and some standalones like W3, Pride of Baghdad and just about anything by Alex Robinson (Box Office Poison, Tricked). If you're interested in comics Blair Butler does a "Fresh Ink" section on Attack of the Show every so often, (I think like Thursdays? But I'm not even sure, I don't really watch AotS anymore) and she recommends great series' and standalone titles. It's usually the typical superhero flair and all that but every so often she recommends something fresh and amazing, and 10/10 things she's recommended to read that I've picked up I've greatly enjoyed and have read over and over again.

Heh, nowadays the only comics I read are the ones at superdickery... But I did enjoy Kevin Smith's take on Spiderman and the Black Cat. The new X-Men comics are crap. What's up with the ugly artwork?! Ugh, it hurts my eyes. BTW, good job with the new site, all of you. I wish I could've attended ComicCon (or any con, really) :( I hope you had fun. :D

God, I wish I could go to comic-con. When I was younger I would go out and buy Spiderman comics (sometimes, I still do) and just pore over 'em for days. When I was eight, I tried swinging on a rope like Spiderman-and I have the scar to prove it. I still have every issue I've ever bought.
